The Rest of the Trout Rainbow!!

A couple of weeks ago, I wrote about the 2011 Topps Update Gold Mike Trout #US175. Today I am going to talk about the rest of the Trout Rainbow from that update series.  The base card of this series is a very hot card and one of Trout's best true rookie cards in my opinion.  It sells for upwards of $350 when graded a PSA 10. I remember in 2013 this card was selling on eBay for $20 ungraded. Now most of them sell ungraded for around 150+ range.  It's amazing how a card can pop practically overnight because everyone wants one. There are to date 2,623 PSA 10's out of 3,660 graded by PSA. This card will continue to rise as the years go on.

The next card is probably the rarest out of the whole group, maybe besides the Black /60.  This card is the Target Red version was exclusively sold in Target stores through blaster boxes or hanger boxes, and so on. This card you see every once in awhile, and when you see it, it has major attraction. Selling for $1,000+ ungraded. The only other sells I have seen is a Beckett 9 selling for $1,499 last month. On the PSA side there are only 17 of this card graded and 8 of those are PSA 10. If you have the ability to get this card I would say go for it.

I would have to say that the Walmart Blue of this card is right up there with the Gold /2011 that I wrote about in my blog above. The gold has had 21 PSA 10's out of a 94 pop. The Walmart Blue has 40 PSA 10's out of a 77 pop graded.  It was exclusive through Walmart in blaster boxes or hanger boxes, etc. A PSA 10 recently sold for $965.  It's still cheap ungraded in the fact that you could pick it up in the $350-400 range. There is not a number on production of this or the other's and it will probably never be known. But you could assume that Walmart would sell more cards than Target and so in that case this card is going to surface more frequently than that of the Target version.

The Diamond Anniversary Topps Update has 2 versions. The eye appealing Diamond Anniversary has the most of the group besides the base graded PSA 10. There are 164 PSA 10's out of 200 pop graded. The real question is how many of these were made.  I see numbers between 2,600 and 4,000. This card sells good and is seen regularly on auctions.  The latest sell of a PSA 10 sold for $1,249. Ungraded you could pick this up for $600 to $750. This version could be found in all retail and hobby boxes.

The last version I am going to talk about today is the Cognac Diamond Anniversary version.  It's graded population is similar to the Gold with having 55 PSA 10's out of 107 graded to date. It seems that this particular card didn't have the same print run as it's counterpart Diamond Anniversary.  I see speculation print run numbers of 1,000 to 1,150. That would make this card more rare than the Gold. This version recently sold for 1,499 as a PSA 10. There are still some good finds out there for it can be picked up in the neighborhood range of 370 to 600 ungraded.

There are other versions of this card, Diamond Embedded 1/1 which recently sold for a whopping $35,200.  Also there is a Platinum border version #'d 1/1, the Hope Diamond Anniversary /60.  The Update Black /60. I don't know what the future holds for these cards, but I can imagine how high the ceiling will be with this particular series.  It's hard to say but the 2011 Topps Update Mike Trout #US175 has a whole lot of upside.

Thanks for reading.
